Girl with Two Doves

Sunday sketch @ my favorite cafe today, after I dropped off my artwork @ Beansprouts. I wanted to create a dreamy mood with textures. ~ Inspired by the book The Dovekeeper by Alice Hoffman, which I'm reading right now.Textures courtesy from Kimmie Draper, and a free Paris Background texture.

Acrylics,fiber paste,glass beads medium
on 140 lbs. Arches hot press paper
I've been in an owl frenzy, since taking Juliette Crane's class in Lifebook.
Here's another little whimsy owl, with a poem excerpt from
Mary Oliver "White Owl". The poem is beautiful. To read it in full visit this link http://www.panhala.net/Archive/White_Owl_Flies.html Misty Mawn referred to her in class. I took a small part from the poem , which I felt went nicely with this painting.
Done on 140 lbs. Arches watercolor paper in acrylics, fiber paste for body and wings, and glass beads medium for feathers. Homemade flower stamp on printing paper, and glued on watercolor paper with matte medium
Excerpt reads:
" Coming down out of the freezing sky
with its depths of light
like an angel, or a Buddha with wings"

My Child's Innocence (finished painting)

'"My Child's Innocence" is on Russian birchwood 20"x24" wood panel.
Little girl on a swing, dragonflies flying about, peace birds slowly
and gently moving along flapping their little wings. One as landed
on the little girl. Collaged flowers using a monoprint technique
and home made stamp. There's a little guest at the foot of the
painting, that is very amusing , and has a lot of character.
Many layers of pouring medium as a finishing touch giving it
a glossy  look. This painting is about honoring our
inner child, to let it come out and play.

Sun, Moon,Healing Heart

This was created on 12"x24" x 3/4 "wood panel.
I had it hanging on my wall  for a year; but
now I'm selling it to make room for more
art;-). It has an encaustic finish (beeswax
and damar resin). Three goddesses each holding
a sun, moon, and heart sending a message of love.
It's available @ my etsy shop.

She looked pretty with a flower in her hair

I am currently taking an online class with Katie Kendricks called Layered Impressions.
I'm enjoying it very much!
She's been teaching us how to draw with our left hand.
I love using my right hand as well; but with my non dominant hand ( which happens to be my left), it touches a part of me which makes me feel wholesome.
This is my second drawing.
When I draw with my left hand, it feels very good. It captures a part of me that is raw (for lack of better words) , and innocent.  The faces I create are not a perfect portrait, and I like that because we live in an 'imperfect world'. I like the asymetrical faces that comes out from an initial drawing. It gives them an amusing character, that always makes me smile.
The faces looks 'other worldly'; but at the same time some of the quirky looks that comes out of these drawings could define some real life characters.
